Whitby is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of St Hilda’s Abbey on the East Cliff. Beside it stands one of the finest examples of anglo saxon churches, St Mary’s, who’s graveyard inspired Bram Stroker to write Dracula.
199 steps lead down from the Church and Abbey to the old town, crammed with an array of unique shops, offering local crafts and famous Whitby jet.
Whitby is a quaint maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque harbour and Sandy blue flag beach.There are many attractions in Whitby, such as Captain Cooks Memorial Museum, Victorian Jet Works, The Dracula Experience and Whitby Museum and Art Gallery, situated in the beautiful Pannet Park.

The Esk Valley Railway train offers stunning views along its 36 mile run between Whitby and Middlesbrough, following the river Esk, through the North York Moors National Park, calling at Grosmount, where you can catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train for Goathland, famous for the TV series ‘Heartbeat’.
